RE: BIBLE DEGREE & ORDINATION PROGRAM DESCRIPTIONS

Greetings in Jesus! Enclosed please find the Introductory Pack you requested that explains everything about our certificate and degree programs and how we operate. When filling out your application, please:

è BE CAREFUL: We can’t process incomplete or unreadable applications (or courses) so be neat and thorough. Identify all references (mom, brother, sister, dad, step mom, uncle, pastor, Christian friend, etc). Providing additional references on separate paper is encouraged. Please tell us who they are.

è BE CONSCIENTIOUS: PMI Center coursework is Bible college level. While it is very exciting, it is also intense and demanding. Diplomas originate from PMI Center along with optional degrees at the completion of each year. If you aren’t up to college level study, give this IP to someone else and request enrollment in the PMI Bible Institute. Once those 8 lessons are completed, you can request enrollment into the college program.

è BE COOPERATIVE: Bear in mind your Bible college education at PMI is TUITION FREE. That means, we don’t charge a prohibitive tuition fee of $30 to $100 per hour like other schools do to pay for computers, postage, envelopes, rent, paper, ink, literature, lights, heat, etc). The Lord showed us years ago from His Holy Word that the Biblically approved method for paying expenses is from the tithes and offerings of God’s precious people who love you, pray for you, and are thrilled to support you. Our files are overrun with precious letters from friends and relatives telling us how glad they are to partner with us in this much needed ministry. Not only does this provide a great blessing for you and PMI, it also offers rich rewards to your sponsor for obeying our Lord Jesus who commanded and promised: give and it shall be given unto you (Luke 6:38).

My friend, we must cooperate together in order to enroll you and equip you with the certificates and degrees you need for ministry. I pledge to do all I can, but frankly I’m limited. I am praying the Lord will touch your heart to help me in 3 very specific, Christ-honoring ways: (1) consider personally sending a monthly tithe and offering- if possible. We have students sending offerings of a few dollars to $100 every month. We believe once our Lord shows you what is appropriate, you will obey Him by honoring your pledge to PMI every month! STAMPS ARE ACCEPTABLE AND VERY WELCOME OFFERINGS. (2) Pray and submit the 4 best reference names possible on your application and tell us who they are. (3) Join us in contacting them to offer them this once in a lifetime opportunity for as little as 50 cents per day J . All won’t, but some will! Jesus said ask and ye shall receive (John 16:24), but without your permission to ask your friends and relatives, and without your help in doing it, no one is blessed (Mal. 3:8-10), and worse-- we all lose!

Dear friend, please hear my heart a moment. If you can’t help, or decide to not allow us to contact anyone on your behalf, and if funds are not available to enroll you, I may have to place you in a hold file until money becomes available. Not that I want to, but I would have to even though it would break my heart.

è BE COMMITTED: I’m convinced the Lord Jesus is looking for total commitment when commissioning evangelists, pastors, and teachers (Eph. 4:11-12). If you need reinforcement, read John 6 again. As personal mentor to thousands of called and gifted ministry workers- including you, I’ve concluded that if God will give me one or two sold-out Peter and Paul type disciples in each prison that will pray, study our courses, pass out our tracts, and evangelize their "Jerusalem", we can turn the prison world in America upside down for Christ (Acts 17:6)!

However, here’s the caveat. My files are bulging with unfulfilled pledges from uncommitted students who put their hand to the plough then looked back (Luke 9:62)! If that’s you, I’m not interested and here’s why.

When Araunah offered David a piece of sacred ground for nothing, he refused, saying: Nay; but I will surely buy it of thee at a price: neither will I offer burnt offerings unto the LORD my God of that which doth cost me nothing (2 Samuel 24:24). He knew there was a cause and with it a cost. He was willing to do whatever was necessary to provide for the ministry God had called him to. If that describes you, this is a match made in Heaven, my friend.

Shalom my dear friend,

Dr. Mike Johnston (Isa. 42:6-7)
Member of International Network of Prison Ministries, COPE

PS: Let me share a story I heard several years ago about the time DL Moody heard Charles Haddon Spurgeon say: "The world is yet to see what God can do with a man who doesn’t care who gets the credit." Moody returned to Chicago pledging: "By the grace of God I’ll be that man!" As I prayed over this letter today and the enclosed IP, the question occurred to me- could you possibly be that man?

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ)

Q: What denomination is PMI?

A: We are somewhat Cross-denominational because we consider ourselves a companion of all them that fear thee, and of them that keep thy precepts (Psalm 119:63).

Q: Who would you compare PMI with doctrinally?

A: If you are familiar with the Old Scofield Study Bible, HA Ironside, Radio Bible Class, David Jeremiah, or Chuck Swindoll, you know where we stand doctrinally. Our statement of faith is the same as Moody Bible Institute.

Q: What translation do you use at the PMI Center?

A: We favor the King James Version. If you have one, please use it for study purposes and use others like a commentary. If you don’t have a KJV, you may use what is available to you.

Q: Can I receive credit for my ministry experience or from other Bible courses I’ve taken or taught?

A: Yes. This is called Advanced Standing and everything about receiving it is fully explained in the DEGREE AND CREDIT EVALUATION (DACE) form. Please request one to complete and return to us.

Q: You said this is tuition free college. Why are you asking for funds?

A: As explained in this IP, tuition-free means we don’t charge per credit hour tuition fees that prisoners can’t afford. We believe it is Biblical to ask (like Moses did, and David, and Paul, and others) for tithes and offerings of $15-$30 per month per student to pay our expenses. That’s why we ask you to provide 4 special names on your application as well as writing to them requesting that they help with your degree program.

Q: What if I don’t have anyone to support me or I don’t want them contacted?

A: There are two places to approve or disapprove this on the application. However, the problem is that when funds aren’t available to pay student expenses, unsupported students may be placed in a hold file until they are available. I know this sounds "unspiritual" but it is a reality we can’t ignore. Your cooperation in this will mean much to you, to us, and to many others we’ll be able to help as a result of your willing and generous heart.

Q: I’ve put my family and friends through enough, how can I ask them to assist me in my Bible school?

A: The Bible teaches Christians are to give as an expected act of obedience. When they do, the Lord Jesus promised they would be abundantly blessed (Luke 6:38). The question then becomes "where will your friends and relatives choose to give these offerings?" We believe PMI has since 1981, proven to be a worthy option for them. My friend, we know it is the precious Holy Spirit who touches the hearts of our givers whereby He blesses them. But if you refuse to allow your friends and loved ones to ever hear about this opportunity, are you not in effect cutting off the Lord’s ability to bless them in this very special way?

Q: How much do prisoners usually pay? Can I give stamp offerings?

A: God loves a cheerful giver (2 Cor. 9:7). In the Greek this means "hilariously willing." Interestingly, our inmate students are among the most generous and willing givers on the planet. As the Lord speaks to hearts they respond with integrity and joy; some with a few dollars per month, some with much more. Stamps are always needed and very welcome.

Q: Can I work on more than one degree program at a time?

A: No

Q: Can I continue my degree work when I’m back in the Free World?

A: Yes.

Q: I heard you have an Old Scofield Study Bible course leading to a degree in Theology. How much is it and how do I enroll?

A: This is an in-depth study of the finest Study Bible on the planet. It does, however, require a sponsor (we have to purchase the Bibles) of at least $100 paid in 4 increments of $25 each. Upon receipt of the first gift, a beautiful black bonded leather Old Scofield (KJV) Bible with the cherished 1917 notes is sent along with the first of 4 modules. You may enroll on a separate letter submitted with your application explaining how your sponsorship will be paid. Materials are sent upon receipt of the first $25 offering.

Q: What are the steps for enrollment at PMI?

A: Read page one again on the IP.

PRAISE OUR PRECIOUS LORD JESUS!
If you have prayed for an in-depth Bible study degree program, you have just received the answer to your prayers. This is your CHANCE OF A LIFETIME to study the treasures of the Word of God in a way very few ever have. We are glad for the privilege to share the advantages open to you from the PMI CENTER FOR BIBLICAL STUDIES. The PMI Center is a special school. Our ministry began in 1981 with the belief that our incarcerated Christian friends desiring Bible training deserved the same quality education from the best distance learning schools in the nation. Luther Rice Seminary- the undisputed pioneer in distance education- reviewed our materials and congratulated us for achieving that goal.

TUITION FREE STUDY PROGRAMS: The PMI Center doesn’t charge the regular per credit hour tuition other schools do. If we did, this education would cost you up to $100 per credit hour, or more. That translates to $3000 per year which, needless to say, is well beyond the means of most of our students. God showed us from His inerrant Word that our funding couldn’t be derived from tuition, but through the tithes and freewill offerings from those who believe in what we are doing and who have a special interest in a particular student. This, my friend, is absolutely Biblical.

ACCREDITATION: PMI Center has achieved NATIONAL RECOGNITION as a leader in non-traditional Bible study education. We are members of the International Network of Prison Ministries, and COPE. Since 1981, we have enrolled over 24,000 students while serving as a referral ministry for Jack Van Impe, Luther Rice Seminary, Mike Barber Ministries, D. James Kennedy, Chaplain Ray, Billy Graham, Radio Bible Class, and the list goes on. Under the leadership of the Lord Jesus Christ, our goal has always been to equip evangelists, pastors and teachers with the inerrant, infallible, inspired Scriptures, so that they may win souls, disciple their converts, and earnestly contend for the faith (Jude 1:3).
DIPLOMAS AND CERTIFICATES: The PMI Center for Biblical Studies grants FREE certificates upon completion of each year or program of study. Converting a certificate to a degree is a very simple process handled for the student by PMI. While no additional coursework will be required, there is a nominal charge for sealed degrees and ordination certificates.

PMI BIBLE STUDIES AND FUNDING

OUR MINISTRY MANDATE: Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world (Matthew 28:19-20). The Great Commission of Christ can be summed up in 4 words: Go, preach, baptize, disciple (Matt. 28:19-20). Since 1981 we’ve throughly furnished unto all good works (2 Tim. 3:17) thousands of men and women just like you who’ve gone on to become evangelists, chaplains, pastors, teachers, preachers, counselors, and all around solid Christian citizens. If you’re hungry for learning the Bible while training for ministry, this could be the day your prayers have been answered.

OUR BIBLICAL FUNDING: And brought in the offerings and the tithes . . . faithfully (2 Chronicles 31:12). God has the perfect method for funding His work specified in Scripture: it’s called tithes and offerings. When God wants something done, He burdens the heart of His servants. If there is a cost involved, He immediately sets these men to the task of raising money from those who are willing to provide it. After studying the Bible regarding the fundraising tactics of great men of God called to ministry, we discovered a simple, yet profound phrase common among all of them: they asked! Moses asked (Ex. 35-36), David asked (1 Chron. 29:1-20), King Hezekiah asked (2 Chron. 31:4), Nehemiah asked (Neh. 2:7-8), Paul asked (1 Cor. 16:1-4) and so do we: for $15-$30 per month per student. Beloved friend, the precious family members and friends of inmates who willingly sacrifice to make these study programs possible do so with joy unspeakable and full of glory (1 Pet. 1:8). Our files are filled with letters telling us how blessed they feel to take an active part in the spiritual growth of someone they love so deeply and so often pray for. But as priceless as these testimonies are to us, what may be the capstone of unselfishness is the way in which our students generously help support themselves with monthly offerings of money and stamps. We are so proud of these dear souls who have so little and yet possess Christ-honoring hearts of givers—not takers—like David who refused a handout because he understood the meaning of sacrifice: Neither will I offer . . . unto the Lord my God of that which doth cost me nothing (2 Sam. 24:24).

OUR ENROLLMENT GOAL: The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way (Psalms 37:23). It is no accident that you found us. We believe God the Holy Spirit draws men and women to the PMI Center with a very special purpose in mind. We are therefore committed to trial enrolling every student requesting it. If you truly believe the Lord led you to us, please do three things:

(1) Pray and provide the best 4 names possible for us to contact to help with your schooling.

(2) Write a letter and ask these precious people if they would be willing to help you (it is Biblical to ask, remember?).

(3) Prepare 2 support documents (1-2 pages each) to send with your application: (1) Your Testimony of salvation and a strong, heartfelt spiritual appeal entitled (2) Why I Believe the Lord Jesus Wants Me Enrolled in the PMI Center.

OUR INVITATION TO YOU: If you agree with our Ministry Mandate, our Biblical Funding, and our Enrollment Goal, we invite you to submit your application and supporting documents for enrollment into the PMI Center for Biblical Studies today.

DEGREE AND CREDIT EVALUATION
(DACE)

Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom;
fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour (Romans 13:7).

The Degree and Credit Evaluation (DACE) program allows PMI applicants to organize and submit a DACE PACK (see other side) which includes all their previously completed Bible studies and ministry experience for either or both of the following considerations:

Degrees are granted from Calvary Christian College and Seminary in South Bend, Indiana, a school that Dr. Jack Van Impe holds an honorary doctorate from and personally endorses. Dr. Mike has been involved with CCC&S since 1982, ensuring its commitment to helping evangelists, pastors, and Bible teachers achieve their ministry goals including their much deserved degree recognition.

There is a minimal $50 per degree processing/cutting fee (plus a one time credit transfer fee of $25). This would make the cost of one degree $75 (1 x $50 + $25); two degrees $125 (2 x $50 + $25); three degrees $175 (3 x $50 + $25), and so forth. Everything is coordinated here at PMI on behalf of the student and checks/money orders are to be made payable to PMI. There are no scholarships for these fees, and they cannot be waived, sorry.

Here’s an overview of the entire process:

ASSEMBLING A DACE PACK

BEFORE YOU BEGIN: this is for Bible college degree credit. Therefore, lift your presentation to a higher level for our Lord Jesus. Typewritten submissions are preferred but not always possible- we know. Therefore, if you must PRINT do so neatly and legibly, bearing in mind this overarching caveat: if we can’t read it we can’t evaluate it.

è Page 1. On top of page 1 write: DEGREE AND CREDIT EVALUATION PACK (centered on page).

About two lines below it, write COVER LETTER (centered on page). This document will include the following titles in outline form:

è Page 2. On top of page 2 write: DACE PACK SUPPORT DOCUMENTS. Once again, be sure everything is neatly presented and represents the quality of a Christ honoring Bible student applying for a degree.

NOTE: Complete information is needed in order to evaluate all you’ve done for credit. Therefore, you must include each of the following three (3) titles with your detailed explanation to follow:

1. MY PREVIOUS COURSEWORK ON TRANSCRIPT ç (use this as your title): List all Bible schools you’ve taken courses with, along with credits, degrees and or certificates you’ve earned. Contact each of them requesting that they send an official copy of your transcript to PMI. If you have earned degrees, a copy of that degree will suffice in place of actual transcripts and provide you Advanced Standing into the next higher degree program.

2. MY PREVIOUS COURSEWORK NOT ON TRANSCRIPT ç (use this as your title): If you have completed coursework that is not on a transcript (ie, conferences, training events, independent Bible research or writing projects, etc), you may still receive credit if enough detail is provided to us. This, of course, will be subject to PMI evaluation and discretion. Your DACE PACK should detail these studies or writings with as much information as possible. Example: During the summer of 2008 I participated in a 2 day (16 hour total) training and discipleship event at Briggs Correctional Center sponsored by Christian Prison Ministries (Certificate enclosed). Give details (25-50 words) of what you learned and how it has affected your life and ministry for Christ.

3. MY LIFE-MINISTRY EXPERIENCE ç (use this as your title): You may receive Advanced Standing if you have been involved in ministry as pastor, associate, elder, deacon, evangelist, author, youth worker, chapel helper, music/worship leader, or you have taught Bible classes, courses or studies. Example: I have taught the following 1-2 hour (each) Bible studies at BCC: Bible Doctrines (16 weeks); Ephesians (8 weeks); Joshua (4 weeks); How to Pray (10 weeks). With each of your ministry experiences, please elaborate as follows in this DACE PACK:

  1. MINISTRY: Your specific ministry (pastor, elder, deacon, literature writer, publisher, associate or evangelist, youth ministry worker, Sunday School teacher, etc). IMPORTANT: Estimate hours per week.
  2. LOCATION: Where you served (Briggs Correctional Ctr; Int’l Publishing Ministries; First Baptist Church, The Mission, etc)
  3. DATES: Dates of service- beginning date to end date for each one
  4. RESPONSIBILITIES: Describe your responsibilities as clearly and completely as you can for each of these separately (if you are a writer or artist, send samples of publications or work if possible). Remember detail determines credit.
  5. SUPERVISOR: Name of your Lead Pastor, or the person you reported to. A letter of verification from these persons corroborating your dates and your responsibilities would be a great help (if possible).

PUT ALL THIS INFO TOGETHER AS NEATLY AND ORDERLY AS POSSIBLE AND SEND TO US!

If enclosing a check/money order, make it payable to PMI!
